Sheriff’s deputy shoots, kills man in northwest Georgia

WHITE, Ga. (AP) — Authorities have identified a man who was fatally shot by a sheriff’s deputy in northwest Georgia.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Sherry Lang says 47-year-old Darren Billy Wilson was fatally shot by Bartow County Sheriff’s Deputy Anthony Parker Tuesday afternoon in White — about 45 miles northwest of Atlanta.

Authorities have said Wilson, who was wearing only boxer shorts and a baseball cap, was carrying a large stick and was shot when he made threats and charged toward deputies. Bartow County sheriff’s officials have said a caller told them a man carrying a large stick had been threatening someone before the deputies arrived on the scene.

The deputies were not injured.
