Greenville man killed after trespassing reported

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — A man has been shot and killed in Greenville County after a trespassing incident was reported.

Coroner Parks Evans tells local media that 32-year-old Matthew Whitman of Greenville was shot and killed Saturday morning.

Sheriff’s spokesman Drew Pinciaro says the homeowner who reported the trespassing incident fired a weapon at a suspicious person. The homeowner’s name has not been released.

Whitman lived about a mile and a half from the home where the shooting occurred. The home is about six miles north of Greenville.

No charges have been filed.
