SAVANNAH, GA- The Savannah Hilton Head International Airport reopened its doors on Thursday after snow and ice on the runways caused the airport to close its doors for a day and a half.
That meant dozens of cancelled flights and passengers sitting around waiting for conditions to change so they could get to their destination.
“I had booked my ticket from cheaper air, so I called them and they said yeah flight is still on. Then I called Delta back, and they said it’s at 2:15 p.m. now, so I’m here looking at the board, and it says right here, cancelled,” said Rafael Perez, a passenger traveling to Saudi Arabia.
Many travelers told News 3, they had been trying to contact their airlines all day for more information on their flights, but could not get through. Many passengers also said they were frustrated and came to the airport to speak to airline representatives in person, but many were unavailable.
“We’re with United. We can’t get anybody to talk. No agent at the desk, no correspondents on the phone. You think you’re going to come where there’ll be an agent, but not yet,” said Bob Horner, a passenger traveling to Colorado.
The runways were both fully operational by around 2:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
