Police ID victim in deadly car crash on I-516

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Department’s Traffic Investigation Unit is investigating a single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of one man.

According to SCMPD, Harold Herrin, 63, of Pooler, was traveling in a Jeep Wrangler eastbound on I-516 around 6:20 a.m. this morning when the vehicle left the roadway and crashed into Hunter Army Airfield’s perimeter fence.

Herrin has died as a result of his injuries.

UPDATE: Chatham Emergency Management reports that all lanes of I-516 have reopened after deadly car crash.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Savannah Chatham Metro Police report that one person died in a single-vehicle crash at I-516 near Montgomery Street.

One lane of east and westbound traffic is closed.

Investigators are on the scene.
