JASPER COUNTY, S.C. (WSAV) – Jasper County held a press conference at 12:00 p.m. today regarding Hurricane Irma updates for the area.
A mandatory evacuation has been issued for Knowles Island & Tullifiny Island, in effect as of 10:00 a.m. today.
Evacuation orders have not been issued for the rest of the area, but officials urge residents to leave if they feel it is necessary.
“If you feel that your home is not safe, then use your best judgment and relocate,” says Garrett Lucas, Jasper County Fire and Rescue.
Ridgeland High Junior and Elementary School will operate as shelters, for all Jasper County residents — whether under mandatory evacuation or not.
Fire departments will take you to a shelter if needed. Click here for a full list of those locations.
Residents with special medical needs, including CPAP, oxygen concentrators, or those with physical ailments may not be able to use the county shelter.
Dial 843-726-4421 as soon as possible for assistance.
A curfew has not been issued for the area, but Sheriff Malphrus assured, “we’re going to keep you safe, but we’re keeping watch over your property.”
