Update: Police say West 49th Street shooting was self-defense

SAVANNAH, Ga. (SCMPD) — Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police’s Violent Crimes detectives are investigating the shooting of Marquice Allen, 34, in the 1100 block of West 49th Street on June 30.

At about 8:15 a.m., officers responded to the area and found Allen suffering from life-threatening injuries. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Investigators have determined that this shooting was domestic in nature. At this time, it appears the shooting was an act of self-defense.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Department reported a fatal shooting this morning, June 30, near West 49th Street and Hopkins.

Police say a male shooting victim died as a result of his injuries and a person of interest is being interviewed. They also report the shooting is ‘domestic in nature.’

No word yet on ID or age of victim.
