LAVONIA, GA (WSPA) – A suspect is in custody after two police officers were shot during a traffic stop in Lavonia, GA.
According to Lavonia Chief Bruce Carlisle, one officer was shot in the shoulder and the other was shot in the hand and leg.
The suspect, 22-year-old Khari Anthony Dashaun Gordon, was captured sometime after 11:00pm, according to officials at the scene.
Gordon will be charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, two counts of Attempted Murder, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.
He was found in the woods about 2 miles from the scene of the shooting.
Gordon was out on bond for an attempted murder charge in Greenville County, according to court records. Gordon was also stopped in Greenville for driving without a license Friday, December 9.
The officers were arresting the driver after pulling over a stolen car when the shooting happened, according to Chief Carlisle.
Both officers are being taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital for their injuries.
The shooting happened near the Zaxby’s restaurant on Jones Street in Lavonia, according to the chief.
St. Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital was on lockdown due to the search for the suspect.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Georgia Highway Patrol, and the FBI are assisting in the investigation.
