SAN FRANCISCO (KRON)—An animal advocacy group is asking the San Francisco International Airport to remove pork from its restaurants after the airport introduced a pig as part of its animal therapy program.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, also known as PETA, issued a statement Friday saying that the pigs that are used for food have poor housing conditions and subjected to cruel treatment.
SFO officials debuted a female Juliana breed pig named LiLou on Monday as part of its program called the Wag Brigade. It is designed to provide animal therapy for airport travelers. The animals that are brought in are certified by the San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
