Double fatal shootings in Savannah over the weekend

SAVANNAH, GA — (WSAV) SCMPD Violent Crimes investigators are looking into two shootings that occurred over the weekend of Dec. 10.

One shooting happened on the 100 block of Carter Street that claimed the life of Javonte Reed, 19 on Sunday, Dec. 11

According to officials, around 6:45 p.m. officers responded to the scene and found Reed with a bullet wound. He was taken to Memorial University Medical Campus where he died.

Reportedly, Reed was involved in an altercation with an unidentified male when shots were fired, striking Reed.

The suspect is described as a black male wearing a camouflage jacket. He left the scene in an unknown direction. The shooting isn’t believed to be random.

Another shooting happened at the Southside apartment complex, Spanish Villa.

The shooting happened after a robbery at the complex located on Abercorn Street.

This too happened on Sunday night at 6:23. A man was leaving his vehicle in the complex parking lost when the suspect, Gary Brinson, 28, attempted to rob him.

Police say both men exchanged gunfire.

When police arrived the alleged suspect was dead. The victim was taken to Memorial with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators are working to figure out if this shooting was targeted.
