Effingham County boasts Georgia’s ‘2016 Coroner of the Year’!
David H. Exley received the prestigious honor at the Georgia Coroners Association’s annual meeting last month in Macon. The award honors the late Honorable A.R. King, who served as Coroner for Bibb County, and is considered one of the ‘Founding Fathers’ of the GCA.
Exley has been serving as coroner for Effingham County for nearly a decade and was recently re-elected to another four year term which begins January 2017. He previously served as a deputy coroner for more than 20 years and served in many positions in the GCA including district director, vice-president, and served as president in 2015. He is a paramedic and has worked in both Effingham and Chatham Counties and previously served as EMS Director for Effingham County.
The Honorable Chris Stephens, President of the Georgia Coroner Association, said, “David is very deserving of this award. He has worked hard for the Association, and for the citizens of Effingham County. He works with families and other investigative agencies to determine the circumstances of each death case”.
The award came as quite a surprise to Mr. Exley. His wife, father, sister, other family members were in attendance, as well as Effingham County Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie, and EMS Director Wanda McDuffie. The Honorable Ralph Wilson, Coroner of Butts County, presented David with the award.
