New Savannah organization unites charity, sports

SAVANNAH, Ga. – On Saturday teams gathered in Daffin Park to compete in the inaugural Turkey Bowl.

Put on by Savannah Sport and Social, the group was founded in November in order to bring together competition with charity.

The non-profit’s groups motto is, “Meet. Play. Give.” where people can donate and give back to the Savannah community through league play, tournaments and games.

The Turkey Bowl hosted five teams to go head-to-head in flag football while donating items to America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia and Coastal Pet Rescue.

“It’s important for people to give back and get involved in their community, however they can, be it non- perishable food items, time, money, you know, we’ll take it all and give it back,” Co- founder John Rinehart said.
