SAVANNAH, Ga (WSAV) – The Savannah Hilton Head International airport is no exception to the many busy travel destinations across the country. Airport officials estimate a 10% increase in traffic than Thanksgiving in 2015.
It’s the time of the year for desperate departures as well as much anticipated arrivals around the Savannah-Hilton Head Airport. One arrival Pat Canzano has on her mind is for little Athen Pyfer.
“We’re so happy to have him here he keeps me young,” says Canzano.
Her family is coming from Brooklyn, New York, she only sees them about twice a year. They plan to enjoy the warm weather. That’s also what the sands have in mind. They’re coming down via New Hampshire to see grandma.
“This is the first time my side of the family is getting together and we’ll all mostly be there,” Sand says.
It marks a first for Jason celebrating Thanksgiving with his mom Janice and his two kids.
“This is actually the first holiday I’m going to spend with my family and kids so, ‘Really?’ In about 8 years.”
Janice Sand usually goes to see them, but this year she’ll be able to not only see her son Jason, but also her daughter’s family will be visiting.
“I know it’s hard for them to travel taking time off work and school and everything so it’s easier for us to travel but we’re glad to have them here,” says Janice.
And they have a lot to get done before the family flies back up north this weekend.
“We’ve got a lot of things planned nothing too exciting, swimming pool and we’ve got a few other surprises that we won’t reveal till we get there.”
Through the entire travel week and weekend, the airport is asking passengers to arrive 90 minutes to two hours before their estimates take off times.
