Tropical Storm Otto is gaining strength this morning in the Caribbean Sea. With its strongest winds now at 70 mph, it is very close to reaching Category 1 hurricane status (winds of 74 mph).
It was located 225 miles southeast of San Andres Island as of 7 am and was stationary. A slow west-northwestward motion is expected tonight into Wednesday, eventually followed by a turn toward the west.
This track puts Otto on a path to impact Central America, and it will stay far away from the United States. However, Otto serves as a reminder that hurricane season isn’t over until it’s over!
