SAVANNAH, Ga. – A Georgia correctional officer is behind bars on multiple charges after an investigation by the Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team and U.S. Department of Justice Office.
22-year-old Akeiran Lawson of Lumber CIty was a correctional officer at McRae Correctional Facility. CNT began their investigation into Lawson after Information came in that he was helping federal inmates. During the investigation, undercover agents found that Lawson was willing to transport large amounts of drugs for money.
Agents say Lawson agreed to transport a large amount of cocaine and left to do so on November 3rd. He was stopped on Interstate 95 between Highway 204 and Interstate 16 and taken into custody. They also found a loaded firearm in his possession.
Lawson is currently being held in the Chatham County Detention Center.
