City of Savannah: Elevator issue at Civic Center has not hampered early voters

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Lines for early voting are long in several Chatham County locations today as early voting winds down this afternoon. We received word that elevators were not working at the Civic Center which may be hampering some handicapped voters.

However, Bryan Bailey, the assistant director of the Civic Center says that is not the case.

One elevator nearest the Montgomery Street entrance IS out of order.

But the elevator near the main entrance, which Bailey says is used by most people, is working.

Bailey and a city official we reached out to – both told us they know of no handicapped voter that has been unable to cast a ballot because of the one elevator not working.

Bailey did say the lines have been long. We talked with two people who said they waited more than an hour to cast their ballots but both said it was worth the wait.
