LONG COUNTY – Police have confirmed they’ve arrested one man involved in the more than 10 hour standoff.
Officials say a deputy had believed the man to fit the description of a Long County burglary suspect. When the deputy tried to approach the man he said he had explosives on him.
The deputy backed off and reached out for extra assistance.
Bomb disposal teams from GBI and Fort Stewart reported to the scene. After more than ten hours, they were able to safely arrest the man and no one was harmed.
Police said he appeared to be on drugs, but did not have any explosives on him.
It all began around noon Monday when officers blocked off a portion of Highway 57 just four miles south of Ludowici.
Cars were redirected from the area throughout the day.
Highway 57 is still shut down while officers investigate the scene.
We will have more information as it becomes available.
