BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) – The Beaufort area is advertising to lure tourists back after Hurricane Matthew passed through earlier this month.
Local media outlets report that the Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce spent about $15,000 immediately after the storm to let visitors know the area is open for business. And on Tuesday the chamber received an additional $10,000 in accommodations tax money for more post-storm advertising.
The chamber has been using social media, digital, print and radio advertising to reach audiences in Columbia and Greenville as well as in Atlanta and Charlotte.
Chamber tourism director Bob Wells says the area took a hit with constant coverage of the storm from the Beaufort area.
