COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – Employees from a major financial institution are still helping with South Carolina’s efforts to recover from historic flooding last fall.

On Thursday, the bank is presenting checks totaling $125,000 to United Way of the Midlands, Central South Carolina Habitat for Humanity and Home Works of America

In all, Bank of America says it has given $400,000 toward response and recovery from last year’s the storm.

Bank of America is also hosting an employee volunteer event with those organizations, working to repair siding on a flood damaged home. This event is part of the “Blitz Build Week” where community members join in recovery projects to commemorate the flood anniversary.

The bank says it gives its employees paid time off for volunteerism to demonstrate their commitment to local communities.
