Hurricane Nicole continues to generate high surf as it sits 555 miles southeast of Cape Race, Newfoundland in the North Atlantic. It was a Category 1 storm Monday morning with winds of 75 mph.
The center was moving northeast at 9 mph and expected to increase in speed, producing hurricane force winds through Tuesday as it begins to lose its tropical characteristics.
Other than Nicole, there is a cluster of showers and storms near the Bahamas that bears watching. It has a low chance of development through the next 3 days, but a medium chance through the next 5. As of now, most of the computer models keep it away from the East Coast of the United States.
