How to help students affected by Hurricane Matthew

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Hurricane Matthew devastated the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry.

In Savannah the Westlake Apartments were particularly damaged with debris and floodwaters.

On Friday the Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools and Communities in Schools transformed the Woodville-Tompkins Lower Campus gym into a packing station for students and family suffering because of the hurricane.

Volunteers and staff packed school supplies, cases of water, uniforms, and personal hygiene items to give away to 100 students.

“We just want to help our students make sure there is school on Monday, ready to do business and know

that we are here for them and their families,” SCCPSS Director of Student Affairs Dr. Quentina Miller-Fields said.
