Savannah Police warn of post Matthew scams

SAVANNAH, Ga. – SCMPD officials are urging residents to be mindful of criminals posing as service providers during the recovery.

Tree removal and general home repairs are some of the most needed services and police say scammers are targeting those who need it.

To protect yourself, always request copies of current business licenses before any transaction.  That license will contain the company’s name, license number, service classification, dates active and an address.

The Georgia city or country issuing the license should also be listed.  Out of state businesses have to obtain local licenses.

Businesses or people accused of price gouging, operating without a license, or anything else fraudulent could face fines and or jail time.

Residents can call 912-652-6500 for incidents that already occurred and 911 for anything in progress.
