SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Chatham County is looking for volunteers to help with the approximately 2200 residents who evacuated to shelters in Augusta, GA. The Trade & Convention Center on Hutchinson Island is serving as the re-entry point and temporary shelters.
According to officials, the American Red Cross (ARC) is handling the shelter and re-entry. They are looking for 150 volunteers ASAP to help with re-entry activities. Since many government offices, schools and colleges and faith-based organizations are closed indefinitely and the ARC is hoping staff with these groups could possibly help.
For adequate coverage, employees with Chatham County, City of Savannah and all other local government agencies, colleges nad universities and public and private schools are strongly encouraged to help with assistance.
