BULL RIVER YACHT CLUB, Ga. – Camped out at home and waiting for the storm to pass that’s what many locals did who stayed in the area.
Most of them News 3 crews spoke to said it is an experience they’ve never seen before.
They say it was difficult to sleep with the wind rattling their homes and many of them even lost some property to Hurricane Matthew along the way.
“The house was shaking,” Stacey Horner, Bull River Yacht Club, said. “I mean, our next door neighbors chimney started coming off. We have a dock that just started ripping off and going away. The nice thing is the title surge only came two feet at our house.”
Horner said she is just thankful because the damage and death toll could have been much worse.
