BCSO Make arrest in shots fire call in Sun City

SUN CITY, SC (WSAV) – Just after 11:00 PM on Thursday night a father and his adult son visiting a female family member on Bourquine Way in Sun City were packing their vehicle to resume travel the following morning. The two men then observed what they believed to be a vehicle belonging to their family member’s former boyfriend, Nathan Garner, parked on the side of the road a short distance from her house.

Aware of a domestic violence incident involving their family member just few weeks prior in which Garner was arrested, the two walked over to the vehicle to see if it was his.  After confirming it was Garner’s vehicle, the two started walking back toward the residence to make the female family member aware.

Nathan Garner then surfaced from the darkness where he lay and wait behind some shrubs.  Garner walked to within a few feet of the two men and drew a pistol from his waistband.  He pointed the pistol at at them and fired two to three two shots.

According to the BCSO, the bullets missed and the two quickly disarmed and tackled Garner in the road near the intersection of Bourquine Way and Purry Circle. After a short struggle they restrained Garner and called the Sheriff’s Office Emergency Dispatch 911 for deputies to respond.

When Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived on scene, they secured Nathan Garner’s Beretta 9mm pistol from the road and assumed control of him from the two men. Deputies observed Garner had sustained some facial injuries during his scuffle with the men and summoned Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to the scene.

Once EMS arrived they determined Garner would require further examination and treatment by a physician.  Accompanied by deputy sheriffs Garner was transported by EMS to Coastal Carolina Medical Center, while other deputies and investigators interviewed the two male victims, witnesses and collected evidence at the scene.

Based on their findings, Sheriff’s Office investigators met with a Beaufort County Magistrate and obtained warrants for Garner’s arrest for two counts of Attempted Murder, Possession of a Weapon in the Commission of a Violent Crime and Stalking.  Meanwhile, deputies maintained watch over Garner as physicians determined he would be admitted to Coastal Carolina for his injuries and unrelated medical issues requiring further evaluation.

Early Saturday evening physicians released Nathan Garner from Coastal Carolina to the custody of deputies.  He was transported to the Beaufort County Detention Center and incarcerated on the four active arrest warrants without incident.  This morning his bonds were set at $10,000 each for Possession of a Weapon in the Commission of a Violent Crime and Stalking.  Garner was denied bond for the two Attempted Murder charges.

Additional Information- Nathan Garner was arrested on the night of September 7, 2016 for Domestic Violence 2nd following an incident at the home on Bourquine Way in Sun City.  Garner posted the $10,000 bond set for the charge and was released from the Detention Center the following afternoon.
