Officer adopts kitten rescued from storm drain

CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (WCMH) — Police officers, firefighters and even a plumber spent more than two hours trying to rescue a kitten from a storm drain. Once it was over, a police officer walked away with a new best friend.

The kitten was stuck in a storm drain in Citrus Heights California.

A man found heard the cat meowing in the drain. Then a firefighter showed up to help, then the manager of a Roto Rooter drove by and saw all of the commotion,KCRA reported.

Officer Elen Calderon was the first police officer to arrive.

“I was talking to the guy who found it, and you could hear the kitten in the storm drain meowing,” Officer Calderon said.

For more than two hours, first responders tried to coax the kitty from the drain.

“I let him know that I had a sewer video inspection camera. In the process of running the camera up there and moving it around, the cat just came out.”

“Just somebody willing to stop and say, hey, how can I help? I’ve got this tool. Provided the opportunity to get this cat out pretty quickly and then, again, the best ending ever is that an officer adopting this little cat,” said Sacramento Metro Fire Captain Michelle Eidam.

As for the cat’s name, Officer Calderon says she is calling her “Stormy from the storm drain.”

Calderon says stormy is now happy and healthy, weighing in at almost two pounds.
