At 5 pm Matthew was 75 miles north of Punta Gallinas, Colombia and about 465 miles southeast of Kingston, Jamaica.
With wind speeds of 140 mph, Matthew is a major category 4 hurricane. The storm system is moving west southwest near 9 mph.
Matthew is expected to continue to move west tonight, with a gradual trend toward the north over the weekend. On the current forecast track Matthew will move north over the Guajira Peninsula tonight, move across the central Caribbean Sea tomorrow, and be near Jamaica by Sunday.
A Hurricane Watch is in effect for Jamaica. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the Colombia/Venezuela border to Riohacha. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Haiti from the southern border including areas from the Dominican Republic to Port-Au-Prince.
There is still a lot of uncertainty when it comes to Matthew’s future and if/how it will impact the United States.
