Mayor apologizes after “upskirt” incident

PORT WENTWORTH, Ga. – A city council member called it harassment and discrimination Thursday night and Port Wentworth’s mayor apologized.

“I further want to publicly express my sincerest apology to Councilwoman Johnson for what her and her family is going through,” Glenn Jones, Port Wentworth’s mayor, said.

This apology comes after city councilwoman Debbie Johnson filed a complaint about an “upskirt” photo of her on Facebook. An image she says was taken by another council member.

It’s an issue the mayor says it should never have happened in the first place.

“The repercussions of nothing happening to anybody about this is hurtful,” Johnson said. “It’s hurtful. That’s all I can say. I’m hurt by it.”

Johnson’s lawyer issued this statement saying “Councilwoman Johnson appreciates the apology but is saddened that criminal charges were not brought. She continues to explore her legal options. Thus far none of the individuals involved in this sickening incident have paid any price for what they have done.”
