Investigation underway in armed robbery, aggravated assault against law enforcement in Statesboro

STATESBORO, GA (WSAV) – In the late evening of Sunday, September 18, 2016, the Statesboro Police Department was alerted that an armed robbery took place at an apartment in the Renaissance Apartments on Chandler Road. Both Statesboro and Georgia Southern Univeristy’s PD responded to the incident.

Descriptions were given out of the three suspects.

A couple officers with Southern were able to locate the suspects in Chandler Heights Apartments and an on-foot chase began, according to officials. During the pursuit, one suspect fired a shot at one of the cops.

Neither officer was injured from the gunshot, but the bullet did damage a vehicle that was parked and unoccupied.

Georgia State Patrol, Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office, and Georgia Southern University Police Department assisted the Statesboro Police Department in setting up a perimeter in the wooded area where the suspects had run. The Statesboro Police Department’s Emergency Response Team, the Statesboro-Bulloch Crime Suppression Team, and Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office K9 were deployed to assist in the search efforts.

Two of the three suspects were taken into custody without incident after an extensive search of the area.

The investigation is now being turned over to the Criminal Investigation Bureau and assigned to Detective Tommy Brown.
