SAVANNAH, Ga. – Officials say an autopsy will be performed on the body of Tony White, a jail inmate who died inside the Chatham County Jail on September 7th.
The decision comes after White’s family pleaded for more information into how he died.
It was first said that White died unexpectedly, since a physically given just before his death showed he was in good health.
Officials said White died of natural causes and no autopsy would be performed.
Now officials with the GBI and the Chatham County Coroner’s office said they will perform the autopsy White’s family is asking for.
31 inmates signed a letter saying White’s death was due to negligence and that White had told medical staff that he was having problems from Hepatitis C.
You can read the letter here.
We will continue to follow this story and announce the results of the autopsy when they’re released.
