Crowds turn out for neighborhood meeting following attack of girl

Police beef up presence in historic Carver Village a day after a kidnapping and sexual assault victimizing an 11 year old girl.

UPDATE: A meeting hosted by the Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Department drew dozens in the Carver Heights neighborhood. School district police are also taking part.

The meeting is an effort by police to keep the community updated on the search for a suspect in the recent kidnapping and sexual assault of a girl on Cubbedge Street.

Investigators asked anyone with information on the suspect to come forward. The suspect is considered “armed and dangerous.”

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Police released a sketch of the man wanted for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a young girl on Monday.

Investigators say the suspect forced the young girl into an abandoned house in the 1000 block of Cubbedge Street around 4:00pm.

The suspect is described as a tall, chubby, middle aged, black man.  He has short, curly, gray hair and a large stomach.  He was last seen running from the scene toward Gwinnet Street.

Anyone with knowledge of this incident or the suspect’s identity should contact the SCMPD tip line by dialing (912) 525-3124.

Information may also be forwarded to CrimeStoppers at (912) 234-2020. Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
