At 5pm… tropical storm Gaston is holding just below hurricane strength… with maximum sustained winds of 70 mph in the central tropical Atlantic.
The center of the storm is 1100 miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands. Gaston is moving northwest at 16 mph… and this track is expected to continue for the next couple of days.
Weakening is expected over the next 24 hours… followed by strengthening Friday into the weekend. It is possible this weekend Gaston could gain hurricane strength.
The storm will not have any impact on land areas over the next 5 days… remaining a concern only to marine interests in the central Atlantic.
The latest satellite imagery of Gaston is below.
