The tropics are active and here is the latest.

Tropical depression Fiona is weak late this afternoon… with maximum sustained winds around 35 mph about 540 miles S/SE of Bermuda. The storm is expected to weaken to a remnant low over the next couple of days as it moves WNW and slows down over the next day or two. Fiona is no threat to land.

Also… a newly formed tropical depression (number 7) has formed W/SW of the Cabo Verde Islands. Maximum sustained winds are 35 mph and the storm is moving west around 18 mph… with a turn to the WNW expected Tuesday. Strengthening is expected… and the depression is expected to become a tropical storm tonight or Tuesday.
