SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah Chatham Metro Police Department’s aviation unit rescued four adults and one child from a sandbar in the Ogeechee River Wednesday night.
The unit responded to the sandbar near the King Ferry Boat Ramp around 8:00pm.
Police say the darkness and the boat’s location would have proven fatal if they’d waited on the tide, so the helicopter was deployed.
Two female passengers, one of them elderly, and the child were flown to the boat ramp. Two passing boaters took the the other two passengers to safety.
No injuries were reported.
