Flooding in Tucson

Residual moisture from what was Tropical Storm Javier is greatly impacting parts of Arizona. Heavy rain has led to area wide flooding in Tucson, AZ. Parts of I-10 have been closed in both directions due to flooding. The city also closed its downtown street car as a result of high waters. The Tucson Fire Department received a fair share of calls during the storm. Several dozen motorists were stranded and eight swift water rescues were made. According to the National Weather Service, a Flash Flood Watch is in effect for Tucson until 11 pm local time. The forecast for today calls for heavy showers and thunderstorms, with a 50% chance of showers and storms lingering overnight.
