Couple found guilty of beating and robbing elderly couple

SAVANNAH, Ga. – A Superior Court jury found a couple, accused of robbing and beating a Savannah elderly couple before robbing and beating three GSU students, guilty.

On April 7th 2015, Kaivon Mitchell, Desirae Blanchard, and two others yet to be identified, broke into the elderly couple’s home around 11:00pm.  They beat the couple, held them at gunpoint, and ransacked their home.  They made away with money, jewelry, and the couple’s car.

Two hours later in the Largo Woods Neighborhood, three Georgia Southern Students were beaten and robbed of their jewelry, clothing, cell phones, and car.

Detectives were able to track one of the victim’s phones to Mitchell’s apartment and found the students’ property inside.

Both were convicted of five counts of armed robbery, six counts of aggravated assault, burglary in the first degree, hijacking a motor vehicle, theft by taking, and two counts of elder abuse.

Mitchell faces five life sentences plus 100 years. Blanchard faces five life sentences plus 103 years.

Sentencing will be held at a later date.
