AUSTIN (KXAN) — One person is dead and several are injured following two shootings in downtown Austin early Sunday morning; Austin Police report the scenes are secure though a suspect is not in custody.
Austin Police initially classified the shootings as an active shooter incident however, police now say there were two incidents and they do not appear to be connected.

According to Austin-Travis County EMS, multiple units were called to 208 East 6th Street. EMS tells KXAN a woman in her 20’s is dead. Three women in their 30’s were taken to UMCB for treatment with serious but non-life threatening injuries. A fifth patient refused EMS treatment at the scene.
Police believe the incident began as a disturbance when one of the people involved pulled out a gun and began shooting into the crowd.
KXAN spoke with Cody, who didn’t want his last name used, who was out celebrating a friend’s 21st birthday when his group heard gunshots at 6th and San Jacinto streets.
“All we heard was three gunshots – two or three gunshots. And all we saw were people running everywhere in the middle of 6th Street. We were 15-20 yards above 6th Street on San Jacinto,” he said in a phone interview. “We just ended up grabbing all of our friends and ended up running probably two blocks away from 6th Street.”
