AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Lakeway community will say goodbye Thursday to a father and son killed in France earlier this month.
Sean Copeland and his son Brodie were vacationing in Nice, France watching the Bastille Day fireworks when they were killed in an attack. The 51-year-old father and his 11-year-old son died on July 14 when a truck loaded with weapons and hand grenades drove onto a sidewalk for more than a mile plowing through firework spectators.
Sean’s wife, Kim, and his two other children Austin, 22, and Maegan, 29 survived the attack in Nice. They were on a family vacation.
The memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Lake Hills Church on FM 2244. Instead of sending flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to the non-profit Creative Action, for kids who love the arts.
A Go Fund Me page was created for the Copeland’s by the owner of Hill Country Baseball, which Brodie played for. The goal of $100,000 for the family has almost been reached.
