Savannah, Ga- The city of Port Wentworth hosted the second annual Save Our Youth three on three basketball event with the help of former Harlem Globetrotter, Gator Rivers who showed off his skills to the kids. Besides basketball, these children received school supplies to help them get ready for the new school year. The supplies were donated by a church in Port Wentworth, Open Door ministries and other businesses. They were able to provide every child in attendance a book bag filled with supplies.
Debbie Johnson, Port Wentworth Councilwoman said, “It’s awesome to have people in the community like Gator Rivers to want to come out and do something for the children. Because as you know we were having problems with the youth in our cities. So we need to jump on board and help them where we can.”
“We need to put our kids first. You know there’s not enough programs you know for the kids that are available. So whatever we can create for the kids is the best thing for them, ” Paul Fox, Port Wentworth Councilman said.
