Statesboro, GA – On Saturday, July 23rd the Heritage Group of Statesboro held a press conference to announced the schools who will play in the 5th annual Erk Russell Classic. Erk Russell was the former GSU coach from 1981-1989. Russell passed away on September 8, 2006. So to honor the legendary coach the press conference was held on his birthday; Russell would have been 90 years old.
These four high schools will be the first ones to play on the newly turf Paulson Stadium. On Friday, August 19th the classic will feature the South Effingham Mustangs vs. the Tift County Blue Devils at 5 pm. At 8 pm will be the Effingham County Rebels vs. the Coffee County Trojans. On Saturday, August 20th at 5 pm features the Bluffton Bobcats vs. the Screven County Gamecocks. Then at 8 pm it’s the Sandy Creek Patriots vs. the Fort Dorchester Patriots.
