SAVANNAH, Ga. – SCMPD’s quick response ended a situation that could have ended violently.
They were called out to Coffee Bluff Road and Daveitta Drive just before 11:00am after a man was seen with a gun.
Police found the man walking down the street pointing a gun at residents nearby. He fired the gun on at least one resident according to investigators.
Withing two minutes, they were able to detain 30-year-old Julius Tate, who police say may have been under the influence.
“Thankfully officers were able to quickly respond to the incident, successfully deescalate the situation without using any force and make the environment safe for the citizens, the responding officers and the suspect. This is the type of response we strive for in any situation,” said Major Kerry Thomas, Patrol Division Commander.
Tate is charged with eight counts of aggravated assault and one count of criminal trespassing.
