It took a Jasper County jury 13 minutes to convict Archie Gleen Whitfield of the knifepoint robbery of a woman outside a Jasper County bank that occurred in January. The jury found Whitfield guilty of armed robbery and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a violent crime, according to a news release.
While standing outside the South State Bank ATM on Jacob Smart Boulevard in Ridgeland, the woman reported Whitfield held a butcher knife and robbed her of $120. Ridgleand Police arrived swiftly and found him hiding behind a nearby tree. He took off running but was caught by officers.
“Mr. Whitfield has a lengthy criminal record from both South Carolina and Georgia,” said Assistant Solicitor Patrick Hall. “Mr. Whitfield is going back to where he belongs.”
Whitfield has convictions dating back to 1978.
