2-year-old girl struck by car backing out of garage has died

MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) – Police say a toddler struck by a car in the driveway of an east Cobb County home has died.

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Cobb police Officer Alicia Chilton says the 2-year-old girl was in the garage behind the vehicle when a woman backed out and struck the toddler with her silver 2005 Lexus RX330. The driver told police that she did not see the girl.

Police say the child was flown by helicopter from Pope High School to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, where she was pronounced dead.

The driver was not injured.

Chilton says no charges are expected to be filed.
