Investigator petitions to run as Independent for Jasper Sheriff

Another candidate is hoping to throw his hat into the race for Jasper County Sheriff. The lead investigator at the Sheriff’s Office, Major Donald Hipp, is collecting signatures to petition for his name to be added to the November ballot as the Independent candidate.

In order to get on the ballot, he needs signatures from 5% of registered voters in the county. He says that means he at least has to have 900 signatures. He’s working on it now, and has until July 15 at noon to have them turned in to the Board of Elections.

When NEWS 3 asked Hipp what motivated him to run, he claimed his decision had nothing to do with the recent runoff results of Chris Malphrus winning the Democratic nomination over incumbent Greg Jenkins; Hipp says running is something he’s simply always wanted to do, and feels now is the time.
