Beaufort to honor Mother Emanuel Nine with Interfaith Memorial Service June 16

This mural was created by Savannah artist Panhandle Slim in tribute to those killed in the Charleston church shooting.

(Beaufort, SC)- Former S.C. State Rep. and CNN Political Analyst Bakari Sellers will be one of the keynote speakers for Beaufort’s upcoming local memorial service to honor slain S.C. State Senator Rev. Clementa Pinckney and the other eight members of Charleston’s Mother Emanuel A.M.E. Church.

Sellers, a friend and colleague of the late Sen. Pinckney, is expected to deliver a powerful message about the state and nation “Moving Forward” after the Mother Emanuel A.M.E. masscare.

The event is scheduled to take place on the eve of the anniversary of the church shootings, June 17, 2015, which resulted in the removal of the confederate flag from the Statehouse grounds in Columbia.

The free public event will be held at historic Grace Chapel A.M.E. Church and is being sponsored by the Beaufort Unified Interfaith Community Coalition with the theme: “Remembering, Uplifting, Moving Forward.”

Candles will be lit in memory of the Mother Emanuel 9 by representatives from various faith communities.
