Ready! Set! Go! Committee kicks off preparation for Back-to-School Expo

School is out for the summer and while your kids are making plans for the beach, there’s a local group working to make sure your kids will have everything they need to start the school year.

The Board of Directors and Sponsors of “Ready! Set! Go! Back to School!” officially kicked off preparation for their school supply give-a-away.

Sponsors presented donations at the Holy Spirit Lutheran Church this morning and now they’re calling on you to help with donations, too!

“The supplies that we need the most are: notebook paper, colored pencils, highlighters, index cards and this year we’re going to even need crayons,” said Tanya Scott-Pilcher, a member of the Ready! Set! Go! Committee.

The expo has been happening every year in August at the Savannah Civic Center for the last 8 years with the help of the community.

It’s a one-stop-shop for families–with helpful information on everything from health and nutrition to after school programs.

The event was created after The Board of Education realized that 62% of students go to school every year without the supplies they need.

Last year alone they were able to help more than 3,000 students get ready for the school year.

WSAV is a proud sponsor.
