PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. – Col. Paul D. Cucinotta, commander of the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, was relieved of command.

Officials say, “the decision was based on information gathered during and investigation related to instances where policies and procedures were not followed.”  They also said no other information can be provided at this time.

Cucinotta’s relief of command comes three months after the death of Marine recruit Raheel Siddiqui and the the relief of Siddiqui’s training battalion commander Col. Joshua Kissoon.  Officials have not said Cucinotta’s relief of command and Siddiqui’s death are related.

Cucinotta relieved Kissoon of command on March 31st.

Cunicontta assumed command of the training regiment in July of 2015.  The executive officer will serve as acting commander until a replacement is assigned.
