Thunderbird jet crashes after flyover of academy commencement attended by Obama

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — An Air Force Thunderbird plane has gone down in southern Colorado Springs.

The plane came down in a grassy area near Fontaine Boulevard, about five miles south of the Colorado Springs Airport.

The Air Force’s Air Combat Command tweeted that the pilot ejected safely and is walking around unhurt. The Thunderbirds squadron is a unit of the Air Combat Command.

The Thunderbirds tweeted that no one on the ground was hurt, and there is no hazard to the public.

The Thunderbirds had just finished a performance at the Air Force Academy’s graduation ceremony.
