UPDATE: Fugitive task force operation leads to arrest, one officer with minor injuries

UPDATE: SAVANNAH, Ga. – The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting that happened Wednesday afternoon.

According to Assistant Special Agent in Charge Cyrus Purdiman, The U.S. Marshal’s Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force was attempting to arrest 22-year-old Joshua Myers for an outstanding aggravated assault warrant.

Myers fled during the incident and drove a stolen black Chevy Avalanche into two of the task force’s vehicles, causing minor injuries to one of the officers.IMG_2108

A task force agent fired one round at Myers which hit the vehicle but did not hit Myers.

The Avalanche was found abandoned nearby on Stuyvesant Street, Myers was arrested soon after just a few blocks away.

No one was shot during the incident which is under investigation.

The GBI is asking anyone with information to call (912)871-1121 or Crime Stoppers at (912)234-2020.

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation to determine what occurred during the incident. When the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the District Attorney for review.

Savannah Police say the intersection will be closed for the next two to three hours while they investigate.

Savannah Police say a vehicle struck two of their vehicles before fleeing on East Oglethorpe Wednesday afternoon.

It happened just after 2:00pm at the East Broad intersection.

SCMPD investigators have crime tape and ask that motorists avoid the area.  U.S. Marshals are assisting to find the suspect.

We’ll have more information as soon it becomes available.
