Kionna Rountree

A Hubert Middle School student being recognized as Savannah’s Best Young Author.
Deep Center has named 15-year-old Kionna Rountree “Deep Laureate” for spring 2016. Her story, “This Is What U’Kia Feels,” won her the distinction.

The honor pegs Kionna as one of Savannah’s “deepest” young authors, whose creative writing is among the most skilled, original and fearless in the county.

She was one of more than 114 students who completed Deep Center’s spring semester 2016 Young Author Project.

Works by all participating students have been published in four anthologies and are on sale for $12 at deepkids.com and in circulation within the Live Oak Public Library system.
All book sale proceeds support Deep’s nonprofit creative writing workshops.

The Deep Center, a non-profit organization, runs the Young Author Project in 13 of Savannah’s 18 public K-8 and middle schools. Up to 70 percent of the students come from low-income communities.
