ARTICLE FROM PALMETTO ELECTRIC:
This year’s Touchstone Energy® Million Dollar Hole In One shootout will be held May 19-21 at Old South Golf Links located one mile before the bridge to Hilton Head Island.
Each year hundreds of golfers come out to support Palmetto Electric’s charity event, and take a shot (or two or three. . .) in hopes of qualifying for the $1 million final round. Proceeds benefit Bright Ideas, an educational grant program that funds local innovative classroom projects. Since 2004, Palmetto Electric Trust and Palmetto Electric Cooperative have awarded 445 Bright Ideas grants in Hampton, Jasper and southern Beaufort counties totaling over $364,000.
All amateur golfers, age 18 and older, are invited to try their luck at winning the $1 million prize. The cost to participate in the Million Dollar Hole-in-One Shootout is $1 per ball or $10 for a bag of 12 balls. Cash and credit cards will be accepted. No advance registration is required; golfers should come to the driving range at Old South.
Qualifying rounds will be held Thursday, May 19, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, May 20, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday, May 21, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Old South Golf Links located at 50 Buckingham Drive, off Hwy 278 across from the entrance to Moss Creek Plantation. Twenty-eight golfers will qualify to compete in the $1 million shootout to be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Qualifying shots will be from approximately 105 to 120 yards. Daily prizes will be awarded.
Each golfer participating in the final shootout will get one shot at the grand prize hole from 165 yards (150 yards for lady qualifiers). A $1 million annuity will be awarded if there is one contestant making a hole-in-one in the finals. Should more than one contestant make a hole-in-one in the finals, the $1 million prize will be split equally amongst those making a hole-in-one. Should no one make a hole-in-one, then the closest shot to the hole wins $1,000 cash. Second through fifth place prizes include rounds of golf at area courses.
Come out and take your shot at making a hole in one in the finals.
